Meet Dr. Talla Azem
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, and parents navigating emotional challenges, developmental transitions, and periods of change. A Personal Note
Outside of my work as a psychologist, I am also a mother of three. This role has deepened my appreciation for the complexity of family life, and for the countless moments of growth, resilience, and connection that shape both parents and children along the way.
What Shapes My Work
My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that empathy, connection, and meaning support are transformative during life’s most difficult moments. Early in my training, supporting children and families navigating serious medical conditions in hospital settings deeply influenced the level of presence and compassion I bring to my work today.
This interest led me to focus my doctoral dissertation on adolescents undergoing medical treatment for cancer, specifically developing a program to prevent body image concerns. This work deepened my understanding of how identity, self-perception, and emotional wellbeing are impacted during vulnerable periods, and how early, specialized support can change a person's trajectory.
My background in research—including work at Case Western Reserve University on the connection between maternal depression and adolescent functioning—remains a pillar of my practice. It informs my belief that a child’s wellbeing is inextricably linked to the family system. Additionally, my time in community mental health in Chicago reinforced my commitment to advocacy and culturally responsive care.
Across these experiences, one theme has remained consistent: emotional challenges rarely exist in isolation. Whether it’s anxiety related to school, shifts in self-esteem, or family stress, these layers are often interconnected. This perspective continues to guide how I approach therapy, looking beyond a single symptom to understand the full picture of a person’s experience.
Today, I strive to bridge evidence-based clinical expertise with genuine human connection, creating a space where clients feel truly understood while building practical tools to navigate the complexities of everyday life.
